I have a Hansenet connection since 6-7 years now. My package is Speed Komplett which is effectively the top end of the offerings from HanseNet currently.


My experience has been that they are great as long as you don't move. The moving service is a royal pain. This is caused by a combination of HanseNet suffering from it's success and having a lot of customers. Plus the fact that Deutsche Telekom distinctly dislike doing the last mile connection work.


My usage can be summed up as:


1) Web browsing
2) ssh + rdp sessions to Hamburg server
3) ftp (English servers)
4) BT
5) Music / Video streaming


The download rate is usually very good. The uprate has been a pain previously. At the moment I haven't had all that many problems. Mainly due to my account always being updated and increased to the highest available rate each time.


Customer service is interesting to say the least. Sometimes they are helpful. Sometimes they are stuff on a script. Sometimes they have no clue whatsoever.


I have heard loads of people having big problems with HanseNet. I personally have been saved from the suffering (apart from the moving business).

Can anyone comment on Hansanet's ADSL service with some tech background? My German isn't good enough to call them directly yet, but I've noticed that their upload speeds are absolutely dreadful. Even using things like Flickr are terrible, nevermind bittorrenting. My download are generally very fast, but with upload speeds that bad, it's not good at all. Also, ssh sessions stay open no longer than a few minutes without timeouts. Generally, the worst broadband service I've experienced in any country.

It gets worse. The routing to Frankfurt from Hamburg is going via the USA! I am going to call them to update you in the meantime downgrading to 1 star.
