I just love this place and come here two to three times a month.
By far my best experience was with Kristin.
She is so attentive and so very kind.
I ask for her every time I go here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Njeri P.Portland, USA2638812617 dec. 2023
I am quite disturbed by the way Helium Comedy club has handled my complaint of Marlon Wayan's showing being homophobic and transphobic. I attended the show on Thursday and walked out for how disgusting his comments were. I asked to speak with Manager to express my concern and to share that I absolutely refused to fund a comedian who presents in the public that he is affirming of his son and proceeds to do a whole set misgendering his son and making fun of his chosen name, and that is not even the tip of the ice burg. Marlon also said that "everything is gay now" and proceeded to say that men can not be bisexual. He is sorry that is just how he grew up. My friend and I were reassured by Marie (who is a manager by the way) that we would hear from someone. I reached out yesterday (Friday) and today (Saturday). Today, I was told that I have to email them although I have had my information taken down twice. What's even worse is that they are going to have a queer comedy doing a set on the 20th. I wonder how Rachel Scanlon would feel knowing that Helium supports homophobia as long as it makes them money.
It's not only disgusting that Helium has refused to contact me about my concerns, they literally are making money off trans and homo phobia. I do not support that. I want my money back and based on how Helium has handle this situation this will absolutely by my last time supporting this awful establishment.Helpful 15Thanks 9Love this 6Oh no 5 - 149594204520 mars 2024Uppdaterad recension
Getting some really good deals on acts and I will say, the ticketing fees are some of the lowest I've seen so the tickets actually remain affordable. They have specials now and they're burgers and/or egg rolls. They're pretty good and the last one was actually a dessert egg roll so you never know what they might come up with.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 011 dec. 2019Föregående recensionStill enjoy coming here, but not quite as often. They get great acts, but I'm only willing to pay for particular people and they don't give away tickets much anymore. I feel like there was an improvement on service. We would basically order both beers the first time a server came by, but eventually it seemed like they worked out the kinks a bit so we could just order one at a time like you'd expect. Overall I'd say this venue is still going strong. I recommend getting on a text or email list to know who's coming because I've seen some really great performers here.
30 aug. 2014Föregående recensionI've been here several times over the past few years. It is nice and clean, plus street parking is pretty reasonable in that area. I much prefer this club. I have sat everywhere from the front by the stage all the way to the back. Areas by the stage are very cramped. It is not comfortable to have a group of 4 at them because there really isn't room. Not to mention that you don't really sit in a manner that makes you feel like you're at the show with your friends. Beware neighbors may be rude and do things like repeatedly kick you, chairs, bump you, etc. Depending on the show on the reserved vs general seating. The comedians have typically been really funny. A time or two there may have been a bad opener, but the main acts have always been good. People complain about the food, but I think it's decent (sliders, tots, nachos, hummus). Pretty easy stuff, but you'll definitely want to share plates if the table is a foursome. The drinks are fine, but they have more recently raised all their prices and are kind of unreasonable now. I think they're trying to make up for all the free tickets they give away (they no longer have a nightly gift card giveaway anymore either). Understaffed for sure. You want to have a 2 item minimum (in the last year they're really pushing that big time) then you need to have enough staff to make that happen. They need to learn more about the business because they could generate a lot more revenue by paying enough staff to promptly handle the customers. It's so slow we never have time for more than 2 drinks. We would definitely get 3 if they came around more often. Instead you are often waiting a while for drinks. We've always had pleasant staff. We've never experienced issues with them wanting patrons to not laugh. I've only seen a couple times when hecklers got kicked out. I've seen a couple hecklers get put in their place by the comedian in a hilarious manner, so they got to stay. One time someone even pulled out their phone and were just told to put it away, not kicked out. You do get warnings on heckler, phones, etc before the show. You didn't know about the item minimum? Did you not pick up tickets at the box office at some point)? Signs there. Did you not walk into the showroom? Signs there as well. Ordered tickets online? It's also there. There are other places in Portland that also have the two item minimum, so that's not news. Beware, they charge for each soda, which is ridiculous. My issue would be if someone isn't a drinker and just wants 1 soda and no food. Not sure what they'd do nowadays about that. One time the service was so slow we were part way into the main performer and still didn't have any drinks (including the water) or food we ordered at the beginning. We flagged our waitress down to cancel at that point and she did with no issue, but that was before they really started to stress the 2 item thing. They have several times messed up the credit card charges though. They always just want to swipe a card for the table and say they won't charge it, but they always do. We learned from that though so we make it clear now what charges go to what card (they charged everything to the held card then had to fix it later). Also had a gift card once, so they had to fix that. People complain about having to pick up tickets 30 minutes prior to showtime. They do always tell you this, but I've been there within 15 minutes and never had my tickets given away. Not really sure why they say it, but I guess it's to cover themselves in case a paying customer comes in on a packed show, then they can sell your free tickets. One of the two lounges is typically open, but you may have to stand because there aren't a lot of seats. They've changed the line system for tickets so people are on the other side of the staircase in line, leaving the other side open to go to the lounge. We typically have a great time. Have seen some really great shows. I wish they'd lower their prices back down and hire more servers though.

Food was okay, nothing great. The mozzarella sticks and fries were good but the chicken strips were petrified and cold. Also it was a bummer that all the sauces were pre-packaged, not fresh. The ranch was terrible. They also charged for soda refills so I'd order with light ice next time. I'd probably get dinner elsewhere and just do drinks next time I'm there for a show

Updating my review as we have returned a few times and pleased with improvements. I did notice it was cleaner, we weren't hounded by the 2 item/person rule (but still made aware and followed it), ticket desk was funny and welcoming, and although the signs are a little much - at least expectations are made aware. Additionally the biggest part-service was kind and friendly! We didn't feel like a burden like we do with the gentleman we typically get. We really enjoy a date night and show and happy to see a company doing well by their customers! Will be back.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 027 dec. 2022Föregående recensionThis place has really gone downhill. The last 3 times just the last few months were a mess. You used to walk in, feel mostly welcomed into a overall clean establishment with good drinks and food.
Now? Everyone reminds you of the 2 item minimum like you're a walking wallet or cash sign. Ok, how about you offer edible food first? Not burnt fried bowling alley food.
Second, the server acts like you're bothering them, you can barely even get a word in to order said 2 items.
Be sure to check your receipt too.
If you're in a large party, I'm not sure why you pay so much more because they're just going to jam you all together at a 2 top. Even if there is 8 of you lol.
Overall, hoping someone comes open up a real club or this place shapes up. It is going up in flames fast. - Adrienne B.Portland, USA231166 apr. 2024
We have been to Helium twice. The servers were nice, pleasant and didn't make you feel like you had to order even though there was a two drink minimum, like most places. We didn't try the food, though many of the items sounded good. Someone ordered the donut holes that were covered with cinnamon and sugar and chocolate syrup drizzled on them. They looked really good. The seating was cramped and it was a full house. Even though the club was full, it didn't seem claustrophobic. We were in the back and I am short, but I could still see the comedian on the stage.

PROS:
* Friendly staff (box office and servers/bartender)
* Affordable, budget-friendly tickets
* Clean inside the showroom
* Cocktails are tasty, but contain very little alcohol
CONS:
* Sketchy neighborhood after dark; poor street lighting.
* Street parking only, no parking lot.
* Pre-show waiting area bar is HOT and stuffy in the summer. No A/C just a couple of standing fans that were insufficient.
* Overpriced watered-down drinks
* Enrance has no clear signage or instructions. Unclear (for first timers) that "will call window" is upstairs. You need to wait in line outside, then go upstairs to pick up tickets. Then wait in the bar area until they open the doors to the comedy room and hosts will seat you.
* No advance info re meet-n-greets. They don't tell you until the end of each show (but if you ASK the staff they will tell you).
* Reserved VIP seats are too close to the stage. You will literally strain your next looking up; awkwardly close to the stage. We asked to be seated one row back from the stage (which was perfect).
* Women's bathroom 3 of 5 stalls were out-of-service for HOURS (clogged toilets), so super long line before/after showHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 9 nov. 2023
A minimum of two orders of drinks or food. The place is great but during our visit there were two drunk white men that kept heckling. It was very annoying and I'm not sure what happened but one of the staff members came to them and the left one by one moments after. Other then that a great venue and I had a great time

We're from Boise, so we sometimes end up having travel a bit to get to concerts and shows that we want to see.
We've been to many comedy clubs in several cities over the years. We've seen some of the good, bad, and ugly.
Helium Portland is among the best we've ever been to.
Parking wasn't too bad. We ended up in a curb space a couple of blocks away. We didn't have to pay to park, which was nice. The surrounding neighborhood isn't great, but it is OK.
The inside was very welcoming and clean. The staff was fantastic. The "all tickets are will call" was a little strange, but it seems to work fine. We went up to will call two hours before showtime. They didn't have tickets to give us yet, but said we would be good to go.
We grabbed dinner and came back about 40 minutes before showtime. There was a line for will call, but it moved fast - we waited 5 minutes tops. There was a line to get into the showroom that was another 5ish minutes.
There is a little bar/lounge outside the showroom that looks pretty cool and comfortable. We didn't hang out, but we saw that the bartenders were very friendly with those that did.
Once we got to our seats, our waitress took great care of us and made sure that we had drinks early and often. The drinks were plenty potent and tasty. We didn't try any food this time.
We sat front row this time with reserved seating at a two-person table. We didn't feel "crammed in" like some other clubs. The showroom was nice, the stage backdrop was actually pretty cool.
We were lucky enough to see Josh Blue's late show. He was hysterical. The host and opening acts were also great.
Overall, we had a great time. The staff was welcoming, but also did a good job keeping things orderly. This is what we wish all comedy clubs would be.
Nice job Helium Portland!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 8418249913 nov. 2022
On my last night in Portland I decided to watch some comedy at the popular Helium comedy club. Sit tight, this review gets detailed!
I am from Los Angeles so I am fortunate enough to see a LOT the best comedians there are and attend a lot of comedy clubs and such.
This was probably the worst comedy club I've ever been to.
The seating was absolutely atrocious, they seat you at a table that's really meant for 2/3 people. I was a party of 4 and we were cramped, basically one sitting behind the others shoulder. Another group was a party of 6 and they were right in front of us even more cramped. Doesn't feel like a fun group experience whatsoever. They literally pack the place like sardines. If you're short and get stuck in the back...goodluck trying to see in front of you if there's someone bigger than you (highly likely).
They also have a '2 order minimum' requirement, although I disagree with this rule but understand why, I was practically reminded of this by every single employee! The frontman, box office, the usher and two servers....very annoying and quite awkward.
I went to see Emm Willman who was pretty funny, however the acts before her were god awful, maybe it's just my different comedic background but they were terrible, it seemed like nobody was laughing for majority of the front runners until Emma came on.
Our server was also quite rude, she seemed very stuck up and just blunt with us trying to practically tell us what to do, "if you don't order atleast two things I'll just kick you guys out" sort of rude. Made it super awkward whenever she would get near us.
Anyways, I'm a HUGE stand up comedy guy and will continue to be, but this comedy club was honestly a bit sad. I'll definitely never be back here.Helpful 12Thanks 3Love this 2Oh no 1
