A good kitchen but a bit simple, excepted the starter. The trio (hummus ...) was really good and actually I wasn't hungry anymore after that. The main courses are pretty expensive and not so good as I expected. Not enough real Greek kitchen like I could find in other Greek places.
Just sharing some starters is probably a good idea.
And maybe I'll try the moussaka which is I guess, better than what I had.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-användare (BushGi…)London, Storbritannien1973881087 juni 2008
Varsity restaurant is slightly confusingly named as it has nothing to do with the university. It is in fact a family run Greek restaurant right in the middle of town.
It's always been very busy whenever I've been there, but full of atmosphere and life while still retaining a sense of initmacy. Which is quite an achievement.
The portions are really generous and very tasty, with a great range of choice for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Prices are very reasonable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-användare (hazyma…)London, Storbritannien3363414 feb. 2012
Lovely little restaurant in a less-than-lovely location in Cambridge. Decent service, decent classical Greek food.

The Varsity Restaurant is a very classy and exquisite restaurant. On entry, the beautiful white linen table clothes and elegantly lain tables let you know that you are in for a treat. The service is efficient, and every last detail is thought about. I went to this restaurant with a large group of friends - about 20 - and we were seated in a private room upstairs, making the evening feel even more exclusive. We booked our table in advance. The restaurant is quite small, and there is nothing else like it in Cambridge, and it is very popular and so you would be advised to book in order not to be disappointed.
The food was fantastically authentic - no 'chain' pre-cooked and reheated food. Everything was fresh, piping hot, and cooked with perfection. The wine was reasonable as well (we were all students at the time, and so were not ones to pay much for anything!). The waiters were very attentive, frequently replenishing the water on the table, and ensuring our meal was going to plan.
This restaurant is the perfect location for a romantic date, or a special meal out with friends. Ideal for a birthday or an anniversary, I am certain everyone will enjoy their experience at this very established restaurant. We all left with smiles on our faces, and very satisfied stomachs. I will definitely be returning, and if you haven't been already I recommend that you try it out. And, to top it all off, it is all very reasonably priced as well! A real gem in the heart of Cambridge.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-användare (Lights…)Cambridge, Storbritannien01528 nov. 2007
I love this place. When you first go in the decor makes you feel like you are on holiday in Greece and its a great antidote to the hustle and bustle of the Cambridge Shopping Centre.
When I last went I had the lamb and it was cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. The portions are great and the waiters made us feel very welcome also the food came out quickly which was surprising seeing how busy it was when we went not only that they have a great choice of wines which really accompany the menu and with a large menu choice you will always go back for more.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Al S.London, Storbritannien9057592 apr. 2009Förste recensent
Dear Varsity (the restaurant, not the student publication that curiously shares your name and font...),
Thank you. Just as I was about to be tagged as a "hate at first bite" food snob by my exasperated friends, you came along and provided my first completely satisfying dining out experience at Cambridge. You have duly impressed me, my dad, and his colleague with:
* your wine selection (Dad found a very solid Cotes du Rhone with a reasonable mark-up on the bottle)
* your smiling staff
* your pleasant, albeit surprising, escape-to-the-Greek isles yet gardening-in-your-cozy-English-cottage ambiance and
* your grilled prawns.
The starter was tasty, if no-frills. Like our server, the halloumi and olives performed their duties graciously, humbly, and effectively. The desserts comforted without overwhelming--and one doesn't really expect subtlety with Toffee Lumpy Bumpy anyway.
I know you don't really need my gratitude or patronage--though we had no problem getting a table for a late dinner on a Sunday night, the restaurant stayed an impressive three-quarters full the entire time. I imagine, however, that you will take the compliments with a simple bow, unpretentious and well-practiced from having given it to many praisers before. Especially in a town with lamentably little competition, it is no wonder that you have many loyal friends. You've certainly earned a new one in me.
Glad to have met you,

Standard food but very poor service. Didn't have a good time there. Location is the only good thing.

This friendly family-run restaurant is laid out over two floors. The menu offers Greek food for vegetarians, fish and meat eaters alike with options including vegetable moussaka, grilled salmon and lamb kebabs for under or around £10. Good wine menu. Very quiet at lunchtimes but bustling in the evenings when reservations are recommended. Popular with slightly older couples and families.

As soon as you walk in you get the feeling you are miles away from rainy UK. Staff always make you feel welcome. Menu is well balanced, reasonable priced. Portions I would say, quite big. And I love their idea of vegetarian options: moussaka, dalmathakia, or horiatiki salata with fresh and tasty tomatoes. There is also selection of seafood dishes. Each food has its own character, mixture of various herbs and tastes.
