Perfectly pleasant hotel. Food and decor nice. No noise even in roadside rooms. Room clean and tidy, bed had seen better days though.

My wife and I just spent one night here after having been in Devon and Cornwall (qv Soar Mill Cove and Porth Avallen Hotels). Its privately owned but marketed through Best Western.
This is a good example of what was once a magnificent old hotel that has seen better times, but not quite keeping up with todays modern standards. It does however seem to maintain its position as the leading hotel in Clevedon, as Rotary meets there , and is regularly used for private functions (a christening party was in progress). When booking I had asked for a room max 1st floor as my wife doesnt like using the lift (what an old fashioned one it was!), but we were on the top floor, though this is only two flights up from the 3rd floor reception. When I complained the receptionist took rather a surly attitude. Room was a bit dingy with energy saving lights, the kettle did not work properly, nor did the trouser press ! Small window with sea view across to Newport.
Dinner was however quite acceptable in a rather pleasant dining room with good service, breakfast similar (except for the butter in mini 'parcels')
I guess it really needs a bit more money spending on it and could be brought back to its former glory. Some extra attention to details
is certainly required.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
