In the past I would have given this place 4 or even 5 stars because we have always enjoyed ourselves here so much. But last time we visited (in April 2019) we were treated so rudely and dismissively by the staff that I actually wrote a formal letter of complaint to the general manager. Sadly, I never had any response of any kind! We have been coming to this place for over 15 years, we even spent our honeymoon here! Now I don't even feel comfortable going back. Just tells me that they've stopped caring about customer service and have no appreciation for their long term local clientele.
We had a lovely 4-day honeymoon in a West Meadows suite at Sycamore Springs in Avila. Though I wouldn't call it 5-star accommodations, it was very nice and comfortable and we had a lot of relaxing fun in the hot tub and by the fire place (we booked through Expedia and got a great rate!) It was located in a beautiful area, just far enough from civilization to feel remote, but close enough to easily visit wineries, Cambria, Hearst Castle and downtown SLO.
* I have to say that I feel somewhat vindicated by some of the other reviews I have read! We also were awakened twice in the middle of the night by our bed shaking violently for no apparent reason! We were convinced it was an earthquake but couldn't find any record of an earthquake anywhere near us the next day. Also, we were visiting mid-week and there was no one in the adjoining or neighboring rooms. Very WEIRD! *
I reserved a room for 2 adults and even called the hotel personally in advance to verify that we would have a room with two beds. When we got to the hotel we were given a room with ONE double bed and a pull-out sofa! I called the front desk to ask to be moved and was informed that the entire hotel was booked solid and there was no room to move us to! We had to make do and I ended up sleeping on the most MISERABLE pull out couch on the planet (which didn't even have a blanket! I had to go back down to the front desk to get one MYSELF), while my niece slept on a creaky collapsed mattress. There is NO doubt in my mind that we were given the "discount room" because we booked through a third party website. The furniture was old and worn, the bathroom fixtures leaked, the carpet looked like it had been installed in the 1980's, and the swimming pool turned out to be TINY. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to ANYONE.
I want to start by saying that the wine at Lafond is very good! No complaints there! If it weren't for the total LACK of customer service I would be posting a 5 star review. I am actually a member of Lafond / SB Winery and have been for several years. I have been to the tasting room at the vineyard many times and have always enjoyed myself, but the service and attitude at the new city tasting room is TERRIBLE. I have been there three or four times now, and have been treated with apathy and impatience each time. Last night was the last straw, which is why I decided to post this review.
I had just bought some wine next door at SB Winery, and stopped in to the Lafond tasting room with the intention of buying a couple bottles there too (for Christmas). It was about 20 minutes before closing and I told the man working that I was a member and asked if I could "try a couple of reds." He just stared at me for a second, made a strained annoyed face, picked up a glass and held it back AWAY from me and said "Well are you going to BUY one?" I told him not to bother and left. It's "customer service" like that that's going to end up costing them members. There are MANY wineries in this area to choose from, they need to keep that in mind.

We normally do our taxes on-line ourselves, but this year it seemed we owed an inordinate amount of money. We didn't know what to do so I went in search of help. Jeff Restivo was very friendly and professional, he got our taxes prepared quickly and saved us a LOT of money. No hassle and no confusion - I would recommend him to anyone!
I am in utter shock at all the 5 star reviews. First of all, his "office" is a converted back room behind a restaurant facing a decaying dilapidated motor lodge. When you walk in, you are acknowledged (I won't say GREETED) by a woman with clown-red dyed hair who immediately goes back to watching her day-time talk show. I was told by this woman that (even though I had an appointment) I would have to wait because he was running behind. When the office door opened the red-haired woman leaned inside the door and I heard her say "You ready?" then she turned to me and informed me that it was "my turn". I got up and went into the "office" where I found Mr Perez lounging back in his chair behind his desk looking disinterested. He did not even stand up or say hello, let alone bother to shake my hand. I sat down and started to explain my reason for being there. He literally just stared and me looking annoyed and yet somehow amused. I handed him my tax info to look at and all he said was that he wouldn't know anything until he "plugged in the numbers" (he made a typing motion in the air with his fingers.) I asked him about possible deductions and all he said was "Do you have kids?" Not very helpful. He then opened a drawer and took out his cell phone and appeared to be texting. He asked me if I wanted him to "start plugging in the numbers", I told him thanks but no thanks and left. I went back on Yelp and found a real accountant with a normal office to go to (Jeff Restivo at SB Tax & Accounting services - who actually DID manage to find us some deductions beyond "having kids")

Irina, thank you for your review. I would like to address some of the things you have mentioned.
1. "his "office" is a converted back room behind a restaurant facing a decaying dilapidated motor lodge" - Our office was remodeled back in 2008 and the construction is rather new and up to date, we share a parking lot with the restaurant up front. The dilapidated motor lodge next door is currently quite the eyesore and has been purchased by a high end resort group that has been working with the county on finalizing plans. In the meantime, it has been volunteered by the owners and surrounding business owners like us for local Police and other emergency units to use the facility for training in a controlled environment (kicking down doors, breaking down walls etc.). As soon as the plans are approved the construction will continue. My apologies for the mess.
2. "woman with clown-red dyed hair who immediately goes back to watching her day-time talk show", - This is just catty and in bad taste. Having more negative reviews than positive (5 out of 9 at the moment), finding something that warrants a 1 star review doesn't take much for you. I'm sorry you did not like her hair.
3. "I was told by this woman that (even though I had an appointment) I would have to wait because he was running behind. " - Punctuality is something we take very seriously and we know that everyone's time is very important. Occasionally we run a few minutes behind like any business does, you were notified immediately which is our policy and if we need to make other arrangements we are very flexible but 5 - 10 minutes is fair and if that doesn't work just let us know and we can figure something out but you were notified upon arrival.
4. "He literally just stared and me looking annoyed and yet somehow amused. He asked me if I wanted him to "start plugging in the numbers"," - You seem to be very focused on what people look like and from what I remember of our brief interaction before you stormed out of my "office" is that you came in already very upset. There are 3 cell phones we use in the office for various reasons, some communications & some administrative but all for business, not typically during an interview but as we were just getting started and I was finishing something up I put it back in the drawer, I like to ask about what brought you in and see about your specific situation before we begin, it is absolutely normal for your tax preparer to ask you about children, and I asked you about one other thing (having never met you or done a tax return for you there would have been many more) and you replied I am obviously missing information and stormed out. During an interview I offer my complete and undivided attention, getting to that point does take a few minutes to finish what ever I am doing, but tax returns are not something to be rushed through but if you aren't patient then we probably are not a good match. I am sorry I couldn't help you on your terms.
I am glad you found someone to help you and I wish you the best of luck in the future. Thank you again for your review and I hope it helps other Yelpers make sound decisions when choosing a tax preparation & planning service.
